Positron Emission Tomography with Computed Tomography (PET-CT)
Digital positron emission tomography combined with computed tomography (Digital PET-CT), is the most cutting-edge imaging technology currently available and represents the direction of advancements in PET-CT technology.
Compared to Analog PET-CT, Digital PET-CT possesses greater sensitivity and resolution. This allows the radiation dose to be reduced by nearly 50%, lowering the level of radiation exposure for the patient. The digital detectors enable more accurate identification of small and early-stage lesions.
Appointment Cancellation & No Show Policy
The patient who needs to cancel the scheduled PET-CT appointment must call our centre at 3841 7992 on or before 12:00 noon time one working day prior to the scheduled appointment.
If the patient fails to call for cancellation within the aforementioned time or does not show up on appointment day without prior notification, the patient will be charged for the cost of the glucose tracer:
- FDG HK$3,000
- PSMA HK$6,000
Useful Information
- Fast for six hours before the exam. You may only consume water (no chewing gum or candy) and take your prescription. Diabetic patients should avoid taking diabetes medications or injecting insulin on the day of the assessment. We will advise you when to resume your medicine.
- Do not undergo any barium study within 10 days before the check-up.
- Please stop taking Chinese herbal medicine such as Lingzhi (ganoderma) and trametes versicolor 3 days before the examination.
- Do not engage in any exercise or heavy lifting within 24 hours before the check-up.
- Before receiving the FDG tracer injection, patients must undergo a blood glucose test. If the blood glucose level exceeds the specified level, the scan may be postponed until it drops. The patient may also need insulin injections to lower blood sugar. Otherwise, the scan may be cancelled and rescheduled.
- Patients older than 65 or suffering from Diabetes mellitus (DM) or renal impairment and require contrast media must have their creatinine level checked (within 6 months).
- Please inform your doctor of any history of adverse reactions to contrast medium or history of asthma. Oral or intravenous steroid premedication may be needed to minimize the probability of allergic reaction to contrast medium.
- If you may be pregnant, please inform your referral doctor and reschedule the examination. If the last menstrual period exceeds 28 days, please perform a pregnancy test before arrival unless you are over 55 years old or have been in menopause for at least a year.

- Patients older than 65 or suffering from Diabetes mellitus (DM) or renal impairment and require contrast media must have their creatinine level checked (within 6 months). Patients must fast for 4 hours before the examination; you may only drink water. You can take medication with water if needed.
- Please inform your doctor of any history of adverse reactions to contrast medium or history of asthma. Oral or intravenous steroid premedication may be needed to minimize the probability of allergic reaction to contrast medium.
- A reminder will be issued one working day prior to your check-up.
- Please arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment time.
- Please bring along all previous films (eg. PET-CT report), related reports, blood test, CDs, and medication for consultation and reference.
- Please allow 2-3 hours for a complete examination, including the wait time after the tracer injection, the scan, and the rest time for the medication's attenuation and metabolism.
