Biopsy

Biospy extracts tissue or cells from the body for observation and examination under a microscope. The biopsy is used to distinguish between benign and malignant tumours (i.e. cancer cells) or to determine the cause of inflammation or unknown infection of body tissue. We use “ultrasound guidance”, “3D stereoscopic X-ray positioning”, or “stereoscopic guidance” technology in biopsy extraction to locate the lesion more accurately and efficiently and reduce the discomfort that may be caused by needle extraction.

We offer the following biopsy services:

biopsy
Core Biopsy
fna
Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA)
vab
Vacuum-Assisted Biopsy (VAB)

Useful Information

Biopsy precautions
  1. Please inform our staff if there is any chance of pregnancy before the examination.
  1. No fasting is needed before the examination.
  2. Please stop taking blood thinners (such as warfarin, clopidogrel, dipyridamole, etc.) 24 hours before the test.
  3. On the day of examination, you should wear separate clothes for your upper and lower body, such as shirts, skirts, or pants, so you can easily remove them.
  1. An anesthetic might be injected into the skin area next to the tumour.
  2. Medical staff will make a small incision in the skin, insert the puncture needle through the small incision and extract tumour samples for core biopsy. Usually 2 to 4 samples will be taken.
  1. The medical staff will bandage the wound. The patient is required to apply pressure on the wound until bleeding stops. If you feel unwell, please notify the medical staff immediately.
  2. You can shower as usual after the examination, but please keep the wound dry for at least 24 hours and stay hygienic to avoid wound infection.
  3. Avoid lifting heavy objects, heavy work and strenuous exercise for at least 2 days after the examination.
  4. After the examination, there may be bruising, swelling, and pain near the wound. Symptoms usually dissipate in 5 to 10 days. To avoid wound infection, avoid applying ointment near the wound.
